This compact USB car DVR adds a forward-facing recording camera to a compatible Android car head unit. It is designed for a vehicle display system that can run the supplied recording APK, making it a useful option when you already have a suitable Android head unit and want the camera interface within that system.
The recorder captures 1080p footage at 30 frames per second. That provides a Full HD record of a journey for reviewing the sequence of traffic events, turns or an incident. Its wide-angle lens takes in a broader road scene than a narrowly aimed view, while the small cylindrical body keeps the camera assembly separate from the dashboard display. The camera itself has no built-in viewing screen.
An f/1.8 lens and WDR support recording when lighting is uneven. The lens aperture helps admit light, and wide dynamic range processing helps balance bright and dark parts of the scene. These are useful characteristics for driving past shade or facing a bright sky, although detail in a recording will still vary with conditions. Positioning the lens toward a clear area of the windscreen also matters: reflections, dirt or an obstructed view can affect what is captured.
Loop recording manages ongoing footage by replacing older recordings as available space fills. A G-sensor supports event locking, helping protect a recording associated with a detected impact from the regular overwrite process. Keep a separate copy of important footage you want to retain over time, since everyday recording and long-term archiving serve different purposes.
Setup uses the supplied APK installed through the Android head unit's file manager, followed by the recorder's USB connection. This requires a head unit that supports the camera and its software; an ordinary USB socket by itself does not establish compatibility. A USB cable and instructions are included. Complete software installation, camera positioning and a test recording while stationary. The rectangular mounting pad above the camera provides its mounting surface, allowing the compact recorder to sit near the top of the windscreen while the compatible dashboard system handles the viewing interface.
