It connects directly to a compatible vehicle through its attached 16-pin diagnostic plug and displays information on its own screen. The compact red unit is useful for a car owner who wants to read a stored code before discussing a problem with a technician, or for someone maintaining an OBD2-compatible vehicle at home.
The reader supports OBD2-compliant US, European and Asian vehicles from 1996 onwards, including CAN communication. It reads generic and supported manufacturer-specific diagnostic trouble codes and displays their definitions. This provides a starting point for understanding the system involved in a warning, rather than having only the dashboard light to work from.
Freeze-frame retrieval adds context to a stored fault by showing the operating data captured when the vehicle recorded it. That information can help explain the conditions surrounding an event and give a technician more detail to work with. The reader also supports malfunction-indicator-lamp diagnosis.
The I/M readiness function displays emissions-monitor status. This lets you see which supported monitors have completed their checks and which remain incomplete. Code clearing is available, but clearing a code does not repair the underlying fault; it can also reset monitor status. Reading the information first preserves the context needed for diagnosis.
Vehicle-information retrieval includes VIN, CIN and CVN data where provided by the vehicle. This is useful when comparing the information stored in the control unit with the vehicle you are inspecting. Multilingual menus and code definitions include English, French, Spanish and German.
Two front buttons keep navigation simple. SCROLL moves through the menu, while ENTER/EXIT selects an item or returns to a previous menu. The attached cable is approximately 60cm long, allowing the reader to be held away from the diagnostic socket while you read the screen.
